Dallas Cowboys Stadium is a Grand Achievement

The new Cowboys Stadium opens Saturday with George Strait instead of Tony Romo, a substitution that says a lot about sports architecture these days.

On March 10, 2008, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, joined by officials and coaches from Texas A&M University and the University of Arkansas (Jones' alma mater), announced that the two schools would renew their rivalry with annual games at the stadium, beginning October 3, 2009. In addition, the Cotton Bowl will be moved to the stadium once it opens.

Originally estimated to cost $650 million, the stadium's current construction cost was $1.15 billion, making it one of the most expensive sports venues ever built.

To aid Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones in paying the construction costs of the new stadium, Arlington voters approved the increase of the city's sales tax by one-half of a percent, the hotel occupancy tax by 2 percent, and car rental tax by 5 percent.

The City of Arlington provided $325 million in funding, and Jones covered any cost overruns. Also, the NFL provided the Cowboys with an additional $150 million, as per their policy for giving teams a certain lump sum of money for stadium financing.

Although the stadium had yet to sell naming rights, many fans started referring to the project with various nicknames such as "Jerry World", the "Boss Hog Bowl" in reference to Jones' continued affiliation to his Alma Mater nickname, the Razorbacks (or hogs) "Six Flags Over Jerry" in reference to Jerry Jones and Six Flags Over Texas, which is near the new stadium, as well as lesser known others.

When you think about things, you attract them to you - whether you do so consciously or not.

This is named for the clinical trials which use placebos for the control group while giving the actual medication to the other. Both groups think they're getting the medication, so both often believe them to be experiencing the effects that have been described to them.

The small village of Huacachina is built around the water and you will find a few guest houses and restaurants to relax at and enjoy the view. You can rent a boat to paddle around the Oasis or simply relax at your hotel by the pool as the giant dunes tower overhead.

Have you ever wanted to go to the Galapagos Islands or to the Antarctica to see wildlife? Well, while you are in Peru, you can visit Isla Ballestas and get a taste of what it would be like. This wildlife reserve is home to hundreds of sea lions and penguins. Take a boat out to these beautiful rock formations and witness wildlife int their natural setting. Birds by the millions inhabit their shores and you will be treated to the sea life playing and basking on the rocks. They are in a vast protected area, so they are not threatened by man, but make sure that your boat doesn't venture too close to the sea lions. Their exhaust and engines can really pollute the air and they can be loud. It is great to witness this spectacle, just have respect for the wild life.

These are just a few of the things that you can do in Peru to kick start your "Bucket List". There are so many other things to see and do like visit Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the world, see real life catacombs in Lima or take a flight over the Nazca Lines. These lines are a mystery of the world etched in the sand over 2000 years ago. Shaped in the forms of spiders, monkeys, sharks and lizards, nobody really know what their purpose is or how they were made. Want to visit the jungle? Joe Crede's Exceptional Fielding Skills

Joe Credeleads the American League in FPCT and errors (not made). However, while these are not stats that many put much faith in, they are a stat which tell a great deal about Crede's value. However, a newer stat, one now used by the voters in determining the ultimate winner of the Gold Glove, has come out. The UZR, Ultimate Zone Rating, a method of determining a players arm and range, ranks Crede at the top of the league among all 3B.

Crede is a very valuable Minnesota Twin offensively. Relative to where he hits in the order, his numbers are solid to the point where any team would be happy to have such numbers later in the lineup. His fielding has been better though.

To build on the UZR, there's a stat called the UZR 150, which goes to show how many runs a player has cost or saved his team over the span of 150 games played at a certain position. Crede's UZR is about 27 runs per 150 games at 3B. To put it into perspective, the next best in the AL after Crede there is Adrian Beltre, at around 17.

It'd seem that Joe Crede should be a shoe-in for the Gold Glove at 3B. All of his stats beat out the competition. Somehow, no one really seems to know what he's accomplished at the position.

Crede gets very little respect for what he does. He's a solid hitter and people recognize this, but virtually no one ever discusses his efficient play as a third baseman. He's simply been phenomenal this year.

There's no question that Crede should win the gold glove at third base this season, in my opinion. Looking at the stats, he dominates his competition in UZR, fielding percentage, and errors. I don't see why he wouldn't.

Unfortunately, the Twins get little respect when it comes down to voting. Look at snubs like Luis Castillo, Justin Morneau, and Joe Mauer, all of whom deserved Gold Gloves and never got them.

The voters for the award are far from objective, and this unfortunately shows. With a small market team like Minnesota, it's hard to get the "pull" that the bigger cities have.

It's best to wear multiple thin layers rather than one thick layer (doing so traps more air and so keeps you warmer), with three layers (base layer, insulating layer and protective layer) thought to be ideal. You'll want an outer layer that is made of a fabric that allows air to flow through it (permitting perspiration to escape), and that is water and windproof.

Start with a fleece, which is warm, light-weight and dries quickly, then add sweater of acrylic or wool and over it all wear either eider or goose-down ski pants and jacket to increase protection from the elements.

A warm fleece hat that covers your ears is important because a significant amount of body heat is lost through the top of the head and you'll need gloves that are thick enough to give adequate protection to your hands and fingers but flexible enough to allow you to comfortably hold your ski poles.

Not only must you keep your feet warm by wearing thick socks, but you will want to make sure they are stretchable so as to avoid blisters; and only wear one pair at a time to make sure you maintain good circulation in your feet, otherwise, they will be colder. When it comes to underwear, choose wool thermals, which will provide more protection and warmth than cotton underwear.

Sunglasses should: provide 100% ultra violet (UV) protection; cover your eyes from all angles; securely wrap around your head / ears; be shatterproof. You can wear goggles with your sunglasses whenever you may be skiing in snow or rain.

The curds can be used as a filling for cakes, tarts, scones etc and the whey can be used as the liquid for making scones, cakes and soups etc., as it still has a lot of its goodness.

Evaporated Milk: Evaporated milk is ordinary milk, which has had some of its water content driven off by heat in some form or other before being canned. Once reconstituted by adding water, it will last only slightly longer than fresh milk does.

Condensed Milk: This form of milk is just evaporated milk to which sugar has been added before being placed in its container. Sugar acts as a preservative and will keep the milk for about a week. Do not keep in the tin, but decant it into a jug or bottle.

Dried Milk: Dried milk comes in a variety of forms and notice should be taken of the instructions on the label. Specialized products can be bought for babies, invalids, convalescents and dieters, all of which contain varying amounts and types of added vitamins and minerals. Usually, they are very much lower in fat content than conventional milk.

Carry a knife with you. Mine has come in handy so many times. If you use a folding knife, make sure that it has a locking blade. Non-locking knives have closed on fingers!

Orlando Magic, Again the NBA's Underdog

It's a funny thing in the NBA. Both Cleveland and Boston seem to have forgotten about the team that beat them in the playoffs just two short months ago. Both teams are insisting that they'll make the NBA finals, and cite each other as their biggest obstacles. Ironically, the team that knocked them both out has quietly improved.

In Cleveland, all of the focus is on Shaquille O'Neal having joined the team and the impact he'll have there. In Boston, everyone's looking at veteran Rasheed Wallace's presence there and the effect he'll have on the team, especially in the event of an injury. At the end of the day, the Magic are looking as good as they did last year, and better. Here's a rundown as to the situation there:

PG. Basically right where they left off. Rafer Alston was a savior in Orlando, and carried a team that otherwise might have flopped without the presence of Jameer Nelson during a breakout season. Nelson is back, and Orlando will be in a good place.

PF- One change. Orlando still has Rashard Lewis (after his 10 game suspension) and instead of Tony Battie, they have converted to a young athletic Brandon Bass, who will average the same point total but rebound better. They also will have a big shooter in Ryan Anderson who can shoot the 3-ball and score.

C: Business as usual. Dwight Howard at center is about as much as any NBA team could possibly ask for. Backing him up will be Marcin Gortat.

SG: Probably the team's weakest position, the team is at least deeper here. With Mickael Pietrus and Matt Barnes to choose from, both are formidable options at the position and both can contribute offensively and defensively. On the bench will be the young JJ Redick.

SF - Most magic fans were upset Orlando did not throw 10 Million a year at Turk but that was before they knew Vince Carter was coming. Carter is an upgrade at the SF position. He can shoot the 3 ball as well as Turk. He can handle the ball as well as Turk. He can create his own shot better than Turk which is something Orlando lacked last year. He will provide a deeper threat freeing up Dwight Howard from double teams. He can jump over most centers which will create more dunks off points and put more teams in foul trouble which Turk could not. He is shorter but I think that sacrifice was well worth it. Bigger is not always better. He can pass the ball as well as Turk. He is 32 and Turk was 31. He is a 8 time All-star player and Turk was a 0 time All-star, even though he should have been one in 2007-2008. Vince also has better defense.Vince was a major upgrade at SF.

So again, why are the Orlando Magic underdogs? Because they let Turkoglu and Courtney Lee leave? They have upgraded at their positions on all levels. This unit makes the Magic more versatile. They still have shooters but now they have adding play-making abilities and rebounding to their arsenal of talent. The Eastern Conference still belongs to the Magic and will be the team to beat in the East.
